<Commentary> The Ministry of National protection in the North is similar to the Ministry of National Defense in the

South. On June 6, 1950, in order to have the necessary skilled personnel for the pending Korean War, the Ministry of National protection demanded that the central government procure persons to make up for the shortage in skilled labor. Specifically,

they demanded architects/engineers, medical doctors, required people who were essential to have during war.  According to

the Korean War Abductees’ vocational statistics, many abductees are medical doctors and engineers. During the war, we can assume that the North abducted these engineers and doctors in order to use their practical skills where they would be needed.
