At a meeting of the Committee of Humanitarian Law at the General Assembly of the International Red Cross held on November 2, lively discussion was held on a resolution submitted by South Korea requesting the immediate repatriation of 17,500 South Korean civilian abductees whose whereabouts are unknown.

In the General Assembly, Ms. Kim Sin-sil, Secretary General of the Korean Red Cross, said that the request to identify the whereabouts of the missing civilians was dismissed by the North Korean Red Cross. A heated discussion took place between the representatives of South Korea and North Korea, and Ms. Kim withdrew the resolution when the Chair promised to hold another meeting with the representatives of the two Koreas to address the issue.

Inoue(井上), the Japanese representative, suggested a meeting including Japan along with South and North Korea under the Chair of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
