Repatriation efforts will be made through UN
P.1, Chosun Daily, Jul. 4, 1964
As Chosun Daily was actively gathering signatures demanding the repatriation of civilian abductees, a piece of good news was heard from Paris, France: the World Veterans Federation (WVF) planned totry to successfully repatriate the abductees in collaboration with the UN.
On the 3rd, WVF Executive Director Norman Acton sent a letter to a board member of the Federation and the chairman of the Korea Veterans Association (KVA), Lee Seong-ho. In the letter, Acton promised to aggressively push forward with the issue of the repatriation of South Korean civilian abductees at the upcoming UN General Assembly to be held in autumn.
The issue was adopted as an agenda item at the 22nd board of directors meeting in early May in Paris and is to be handled by the organization¡¯s executive department. Since then, WVF representatives at the UN have been continuously engaged in negotiations through the UN.
Repatriation efforts bear fruit in Germany
Since the WVF successfully attained the repatriation of free citizens of West Germany who had been detained in East Germany after WWII, KVA authorities said they were encouraged and optimistic about bringing back South Korean abductees from the North.
